Gareth Gardner is confident he will be adding another title to his growing list of achievements in the Queensbury Boxing League (QBL) this weekend, when he makes his final appearance of the season.

The current Queensbury British middleweight and light middleweight champion from New Addington will take his place alongside seven of the QBL’s top middleweights in the new Quest Knockout Tournament series, and the tournament favourite will have to win three times on one night in a gruelling series of showdowns to be crowned the winner.

Gardner was last in action in May when he recorded his 11th straight title win beating London’s Joel “Smoke” Wanderema in the defence of his British middleweight title.

However, Gardner faces possibly his hardest test in the opening quarter final match of the series on Saturday when he meets former pro Leo “The Lion” O’Reilly.

“O’Reilly is the most experienced fighter in the competition outside of myself, and brings a good amateur pedigree as well as his experience in the pro’s," Gardner said.

“I knew of Leo when I was still an amateur and he’s known to have a wicked left hook, but I’ve just got to concentrate on what I’ve got to do in training and I know I will win it.

“I think the format of this competition will suit me perfectly as each fight is only three two minute rounds, so you are going to have to start very fast and finish fast too, so I’ll be ready to go hard for as many rounds as it takes to win."

He added: “I’m training to beat every fighter I face regardless of their style, so it’s going to be a very exciting night with some great fights to look forward to."

Gardner’s quest to become the first Quest champion takes place at the Millennium Arena at the Copthorne Effingham Park Hotel in West Sussex.
