Three young sprint relay teams from Croydon Harriers tasted victory in the Club:Connect 4x100m races at the Anniversary Games at the Olympic stadium last week.

Eight teams from Croydon got the chance to compete in the invitational event organised by British Athletics.

English schools trio Marcia Sey, Rhiannon Gayle and Mariam Ojobowale were joined by Kayla Bowley to clinch victory in the U15 girls' race in 48.15secs - by just five hundredths of a second from an ever closing Enfield and Haringey.

The performance sends them to number one in the UK and betters the club record set earlier in the season.

There were also wins for the U17 men (Dylan Gordon, Chuks Ajeh, Verter Opong-Kyei and Tyrese Johnson-Fisher) and the U13 girls.

The U13 boys' quartet of Ayo Salako, Tyvon Inniss, Raid Boukari and Ange Gbeyo finished second and broke an eight-year club record in the process with a time of 50.58secs.

The junior male counterparts were third in their race but the team of Shanard Jackson, Daniel Luke, Robert Sakala and Aaron Adekoya broke a 29-year-old club record in 42.89secs.

The U20 women finished fourth after three disqualifications from other teams in their race and the U15 boys were runners-up.

But there was heartbreak for the U17 women, who were disqualified after a dropping the baton at the first changeover.
