An elderly woman has become the latest victim of “water leak tricksters” after she let a man into her Winchcombe Road home.

He told the 87-year-old that her drains were not working properly and were causing toilets to flood.

He took the woman into her garden for about 10 minutes at about 11am last Friday, leaving her home unprotected.

When she returned she found her bank cards and about £100 cash had been stolen.

Sutton police have received six reports in the past two weeks of elderly residents being approached on their doorsteps where they were asked about water leaks or drainage problems.

One resident in Lynwood Drive, Worcester Park, withdrew £4,800 to repair their flooded toilet, which had been deliberately blocked.

Police described the man as 6ft, white and in his mid-30s with fair hair. He was wearing a blue T-shirt with a logo on it.
