A suspected cannabis factory burst into flames on Sunday.

Police were called to a four bedroom house in Cuddington Way, Cheam, at 4.14pm by firefighters after they had put out the fire.

They found an electricity meter had been bypassed, a 'sleeping quarter' full of mattresses and bedding in the living room, and other rooms which had been used to cultivate cannabis.

The plants had already been harvested and removed.

Police said the fire had started when an electrical engineer tried to reconnect the supply at a local substation after other houses had lost power.

When the power was reconnected the house caught fire and the engineer called the fire brigade.
